Raanan Katzir , a retired agricultural extension agent from Israel , has been a FWOP partner for many years. Since 1993 , Raanan has been teaching across all parts of Chain on such topics as efficient irrigation, mitigation of salinity soils, simplified hydroponics, micro-farming and combating desertification. With FWOP partnership with COFIMICH, MUJERES VIGILANTES and SEDESOL in Mexico , we have chance to bring eco-housing and eco-villages or sustainable living to thousands. Some 5000 house are under construction now. As part of FWOP role as a full partner in the program, we continue to look for new home models and villages. International Symposium of Global and Cultural Eye on Aging was held in Istanbul with support of World Aging Council, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Co. and Istanbul Trade Organization on March 22nd, 2011. Opening speech was done by Prof. Torbjörn Svensson. In his speech, he focused on aging services for older adults. He said, “There are a vast number of options for dealing with and providing services for older adults. We have to be able to offer a whole chain of alternative solutions depending on the social and health status of the older person.”
Iftekhar Amin and Stan Ingman from FWOP made presentations at the International Symposium of Global and Cultural Eye on Aging, March 22 in Istanbul. On 23rd we visited Darulaceze, a nursing home built around 1890 by the Sultan. For FWOP it was interesting to visit the workshops where residents create various items to sell t support the facility, e.g., jocks, rugs, etc. Later in the week we met with the leadership from a village association in Istanbul who work to support their villeagers in the home village in eastern Turkey and those in Instanbul .
